Learn the Tomahawk and Thumber throws!

Improve your game and impress your friends by trying the tomahawk and thumber throws next time you're on the disc golf course.  The tomahawk throw is a special technique needed when there is an obstacle(s) between you and the chains.  It's a moderately difficult shot, but it will be necessary to use when a group of trees is covering your line of sight.  The technique to these two throws is to throw the disc overhand, similar to throwing a baseball.  You want to throw the disc hard and high over the top of your head.
The grip for a tomahawk throw: two-finger grip. Squeeze the disc between your thumb and your index and middle fingers. These two fingers should be placed along the rim of the disc.
The grip for a thumber throw: hold tight while your thumb faces forward and runs along the inner lip of the disc. The run-up should be smooth; stop on your left foot and release into the air!
Watch this short clip from disc golf expert, Dave Roper from the University of Utah, for proper technique.
